Six 30-minute interviews about housing

Episode #6: Highlights in Opposition to SB 9, SB 10, and Loss of Local Control

Learn from elected and community leaders from around the state why SB 9, SB 10, and four other housing bills should be opposed by the state Assembly Housing & Community Development Committee when they vote on Tuesday, June 22.

The 6th episode of Catalysts in California Times pulls key points from elected officials and community leaders. Individually and collectively they make the point: These bills fail to meet the needs for affordability, increase the cost of housing, ignore water and environmental safety, and take away local control.

Heidi Feldstein, Candidate for Los Angeles City Attorney

Mike Griffiths, California Cities for Local Control, Torrance City Council

John Heath, United Homeowners’ Association, President, Los Angeles

Peggy Huang, Yorba Linda Mayor

Richard Johnson, San Francisco Water Dept (Rtr)

Susan Kirsch, Catalysts for Local Control

Lydia Kou, Palo Alto City Council

Guy Meyer, Host, Catalysts in California Times

Many legislators believe, “We have to do something!“  But their ‘yes’ vote on bills that do the wrong thing, is worse than no vote at all.

CALL TO ACTION:

Watch the 30-minute video.  Then before Tuesday morning at 9:00 am, take 10 minutes to make eight calls. Calling early or after hours to leave a message is OK.

SCRIPT (adapt to fit): My name is ___. I’m calling re: Senate Bills coming up for a vote on Tuesday (6/22).  My group (name) and I OPPOSE SB 8, 9, 10, 290, 477, and 478. The policies of these bills destroy single-family neighborhoods without providing affordable homes. They worsen fire danger, remove parking, and take away local control. I don’t live in the Assemblymember’s district, but I urge you to vote in support of the constituents of California, not corporate interests. We urge you to vote NO on SB 8, 9, 10, 290, 477, and 478.  Thank you.

Names, Phone & Voting Record: These Senate bills will be heard in the Assembly Housing & Community Development Committee.
